Speech On Jusco Fund Launch

SPEECH DELIVERED BY SAMUEL AFOTEY OUT, PRESIDENT OF JUSAG ON THE OCCASION OF THE LAUNCHING OF THE JUDICIAL SERVICE STAFF CO-OPERATIVE FUND (JUSCOFUND) ON TUESDAY, THE 31ST DAY OF JANUARY 2023

Good day, ladies and gentlemen. His Lordship the Honourable Chief Justice, Justices, Judges and Magistrate, Director and Heads of Units present, all protocols observed. I welcome you all to the launching of the Judicial Service Staff Co-operative Fund (JUSCOFund). Thank you once again for honoring our invitation on such a short notice. I am going to very brief considering the fact that we have a lot to do after this programme.

The principle underlying the JUSCOFund is mutual help, which simply means “each for all and all for each”. The concept of Co-operative Society is not new. It prevails in most institutions and jurisdictions. It has almost become a universal concept. It is basically a voluntary association of persons, whose motive is the welfare of its members.

Having worked in this noble service for decades, I know for a fact that most staff always fall on some cutthroat financial institutions whenever they are in dire need of financial help. After critically observing the helplessness of my people, I carved a policy to create financial independence for them through the introduction of the JUSCOFund for which we are all here today.

Financial independence is what every Ghanaian worker desires. However, most of our members are highly indebted to banks and many other financial institutions. At the end of the month, almost all their earnings go back to these financial institutions making it impossible to make ends meet and I feel their pain.

As definitively captured in my manifesto to introduce the JUSAG Cooperative Society, I am here today to honour that promise to my people. The JUSCOFund is here to provide credit and financial services to our members and all staff of the service at the most competitive prices.

I will love to add that JUSCOFund is non-discriminatory. Is voluntary and open to all staff of the service; from the cleaners, watchmen, artisans to high court registrars, chief registrars and our able directors. The Judges and Magistrates are equally qualified to join the JUSCOFund.

To enable the JUSCOFund serve its intended purpose, we have carefully selected financial experts with proven integrity to manage the affairs of JUSCOFund. In addition to this, the Bye-Laws and operational policy documents are carefully crafted to eliminate abuses. Members can be assured of safety and prudent management of the Fund, as it is dear to my heart.

Before I resume my seat, I will like to express my sincere gratitude to the Honourable Chief Justice and the Judicial Secretary for their support. I will also like to thank the Registrar of Co-operatives, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah Apreku and his team for their guidance towards establishment of the JUSCOFund. To the National Executives Board, I am grateful for your backing in making this a reality. I also thank the JUSCOFund Working Committee for their hard work in putting this together within such a short time. And to the Regional Executives, members of staff, JUSCOFund is your fund for life! I say, God bless you all.

Thank you.
