JUSAG Pays Courtesy Call On Ya-Na Abukari II Ahead Of Tamale Conference 2026

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has paid a royal courtesy call on the King and Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, Northern Region, as part of preparations for its upcoming Quadrennial Delegates' Conference.

The conference is scheduled to take place at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale from 24th to 28th August 2026, and is expected to be attended by high-profile dignitaries including the President of Ghana and the Chief Justice.

Addressing the King, JUSAG National President Mr. Samuel Afotey Otu explained that, in keeping with custom and tradition, the delegation had come to formally inform Ya-Na of the conference, seek his royal blessings, and extend an official invitation to the opening ceremony which would be held on the 25th of August 2026.

Beyond the palace visit, the delegation engaged a number of stakeholders in Yendi, including staff of the Yendi Circuit Court, the Municipal Police Commander, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sugri Mununi. During these interactions, JUSAG confirmed that a temporary judge had been assigned to the Yendi Circuit Court while recruitment and posting of a permanent judicial officer is underway.

In a show of goodwill towards the Dagbon Kingdom, JUSAG made a donation of GHS 10,000 towards the ongoing construction of a new Gbewaa Palace — a project described as befitting the revered status of Ya-Na and the rich heritage of the ancient Dagbon Kingdom. The Palace reciprocated the gesture by presenting the National President, General Secretary Mr. Abdulai Yakubu, and other members of the delegation with traditional Dagbon smocks, and clothes.

The delegation was subsequently conducted on a tour of the new palace construction site, which was reported to be at an advanced stage, with design elements reflecting the culture and traditions of Dagbon. The site inspection was led by selected elders of the Gbewaa Palace, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, and officials of the Concerned Citizens of Yendi, led by its President, Mr. Sadiq Latest.

The delegation, which undertook the visit to the Gbewaa Palace on Tuesday, 14th April 2026, was led by National President Mr. Samuel Afotey Otu, who also serves as a Member of the Judicial Council. Other members included General Secretary Mr. Abdulai Yakubu, Deputy General Secretary Madam Joyce Assan, and Madam Grace Brown, alongside regional officials representing the Northern, Upper West, Upper East, and North-East regions of Ghana.
